SHINGLES

Asphalt Shingle Roofing systems are generally the least expensive residential construction roofing option. At the same time, there have been a number of advancements in Shingle Roofing materials over the years that have vastly improved their quality and durability as well as their variety.

With improvements in engineering, manufacturers have been able to produce specialty Shingle types that can fight algae growth, offer cool roofing technology to keep your home cooler and lower energy bills, or offer enhanced resistance to hail damage. And depending on where your roof is being installed, this can even reduce your insurance premium.

Types of Asphalt Shingles

There are three main types of Asphalt Shingles: 3-Tab, Dimensional/Architectural Style, and Luxury Asphalt Shingles.

3-Tab Asphalt Shingles are the most basic Shingles made with a single layer of asphalt and have a flat appearance. They are generally the least expensive Asphalt Shingle and wear out faster than the other types, lasting up to 20 years.

Dimensional Shingles, also known as Architectural-style Shingles, are the most popular Asphalt Shingle according to the ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association). Dimensional Shingles are made of two or more layers of asphalt. While they generally cost more than 3-tab Shingles, Dimensional Shingles can last 30 years or longer. They also are more aesthetically pleasing than 3-tab Shingles.

Luxury Asphalt Shingles are the highest quality Shingles available. While they are the most expensive Asphalt Shingle, they have a beautiful multi-dimensional appearance, superior durability, and are a lot more affordable than slate tile or cedar shakes.
