Federal
Ward Federal Building
Life in the United States will never be the
same after the attacks of September 11th.
There are heightened security measures at
every venue considered to potentially be at
risk. In order for Martin Roofing to provide
services for the Ward Federal Building
project, all employees involved had to go
through extensive background checks through
Homeland Security to gain access to the
140-foot tall facility.
Ensuring the safety of citizens and
employees around the project, shortening
street closing traffic delays and maximizing
minimal staging space was essential to the
success of the project. |

INSTALLATION
CHALLENGES:
Once all background checks were complete,
and our employees were cleared to access the
Ward Federal Building, we faced other
challenges with working in a busy downtown
location. Surrounded by streets, sidewalks,
pedestrians and employees who worked in and
around the building, we had to work closely
with Winston-Salem city officials to
coordinate all stages of the project.
To lessen street closing inconveniences, we
operated during non-commute times in the
morning and evenings. With virtually no room
for our staging area, project logistics had
to be organized so every square foot
available was utilized. Equipment and
supplies were scheduled for arrival and
usage in a just-in-time logistics model.
Safety monitors were used on the ground, as
well as the roof, to ensure the safety of
everyone in and around the Ward Federal
Building. |
